When we last spoke, we discussed how this journey is hard. It’s messy. It can seem lonely if you do not look around you.
But…
What you need to remember more than anything…
it can be ACCOMPLISHED through HIM.
One step at a time. With His love.
As I mentioned last time, we are still walking this path together. So many of us are choosing to walk this path alone when, if you were to look to your left or right, others are there as well. We choose to suffer this journey in silence, but we do not have to. We have talked about the importance of having people with you—to lift you when you fall, to encourage you, or to refocus you on Him.
This week, I want to talk with you about two truths to remember while you are walking.
1. Circumstances don’t dictate truth.
I can’t take credit for this statement. Sometimes the Lord gives you a “wink” that He is listening if you are open to hear it. This statement came from church. When I heard it, I knew it was something that was being spoken directly to me.
When you are walking this path, you can feel like the circumstances that surround you are creating your truth. That is false. The circumstances you are in are not your truth.
Jesus is your truth.
You are surrounded by things of this world—shame, anger, greed, selfishness, sadness, and hurt. These are circumstances that happen to be, but they are not your truth.
As you walk this path to find the person you were and then walk further to the person that you are meant to be, don’t get caught in the circumstances of this world. I will not lie, they are not fun, but together we can focus our eyes on Jesus and overcome our circumstances to see our truth.
2. You cannot change the past, only the future.
This is something I have always struggled with.
As you look back on this path you are taking, you are taking your eyes off the road.
Off Jesus.
Looking back allows all those circumstances to chase you. The shame comes back into your life, but the truth is…
You can’t change those things.
This doesn’t mean you should ignore things that happened that you may indeed feel bad about.
Acknowledge them.
Accept that you don’t want to be that person anymore.
Also accept that you can’t change them.
With every step you take, you are one step further from those things, and at first, they will seem awkward. People will ask you why you have changed. They may try to drag you back into those circumstances, but in time, and with enough steps, you will make changes that make it easier to focus on Jesus and keep walking.
What about the people you are walking away from that you love?
We can spend some time on that one later, but just know that if they truly love you and they are meant to be in your life longer than a season, they will love you still. In fact, if they are meant to be there, they may follow your lead and start walking. It may not happen right away, but be patient and love them back.
Jesus can do great things.
The thing to remember is that we cannot change what has happened.
We can change what we do today, tomorrow, and every day forward. We can apologize for the past, but we can never change it. We can take the hurt that we feel for what has happened and allow it to fuel our change as we walk.
As we focus on what is to come.
As we walk through difficult times.
Together!
As we focus on Love.
As we focus on Jesus.
Talk again soon….
